LIPMAN AND JANICK: WHY ARE THESE MEN SMILING?

After a blockbuster year, Republic boss Monte Lipman and IGA chief John Janick have been tasked by UMG topper Sir Lucian Grainge to lead the newly reconfigured East and West Coast divisions of the company, respectively, with each overseeing a “portfolio” of labels. In Grainge’s words, they will “support our label heads and help them build best-in-class teams.” It’s a huge show of confidence in the able execs, each of whom has a unique and unbeatable skill set. If only their portfolios didn’t now include a shout-out in this sorry rag.
