All eyes will be on Sony Music Publishing Chairman/CEO Jon Platt as he receives the Grammy Salute to Industry Icons award 2/3 during Clive Davis' pre-Grammy gala at Beverly Hills' Beverly Hilton.
Presented with the Recording Academy, the honor reflects Platt's standing as an industry trailblazer who, in addition to redefining SMP's company culture and driving huge growth in multiple genres (not least Latin and country), has been a strong and consistent voice for justice and inclusion. With this latest laurel, he's well on his way to becoming legendary.
Since he joined SMP in 2019, the company has developed partnerships with Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon and Ashley Gorley and signed such writers as Olivia Rodrigo, Jack Harlow, Latto, Anitta, Kane Brown and The Kid LAROI.
Platt, who was born in Philadelphia and spent part of his childhood in Oakland before his family relocated to Denver, credits his mom’s collection of Motown records for his early love of soul—and local FM radio for giving him an appreciation of classic rock. His earliest professional work in music was as a party-rocking DJ. All of which has likely come in handy while he's served on the board of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
"Jon's longtime, trailblazing commitment to supporting songwriters across the music spectrum as well as his staunch dedication to advocacy, diversity and equality in the music business are exemplary," said Clive. "Artists and the industry at large are fortunate to have his insight and passion at the helm."
