We were going to begin this story by saying that Mercury/Republic's Noah Kahan is having a moment, but the fact is that the young troubadour's moment has been well underway for a while now. In the wake of his Best New Artist Grammy nomination and the intense activity on his latest single, "Stick Season," it's no exaggeration to say Kahan is blowing the hell up.
"Stick Season," the title track from the singer-songwriter's acclaimed album (which dropped in October of 2022), is now Top 5 at Spotify USA. This latest heater comes in the wake of Kahan's hit "Dial Drunk" and is already bigger—even adding up the streams of the original "Drunk" and the version featuring Post Malone doesn't match "Stick Season," now at 287m+ global streams on the Spot. That said, "Drunk" continues to get the spins; it's Top 15 at Pop radio.
We likely don't need to tell you how unusual it is for an artist to have this level of impact with multiple songs in today's market. But we are the leading trade publication for telling you things you probably already know.
Kahan has also upped his profile with some splashy collaborations. Aside from his pairing with Posty, he's featured on "Sarah's Place," by streaming monster Zach Bryan, and just last week dropped "Northern Attitude," a duet with fellow bearded strummer Hozier. A few weeks earlier, he delivered "She Calls Me Back" with Bryan's hit duet partner, Kacey Musgraves. The admiration Kahan has inspired in the artist community is further crystallized by Grammy darling Olivia Rodrigo's BBC Live Lounge cover version of "Stick Season."
To sum up: Noah Kahan's moment is turning into a romp. Where does he go from here? "Stick" around. See what we did there?
