UMG GETS THUMBS-UP ON EMISSIONS

Universal Music Group’s greenhouse-gas-emission reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative, the gold standard for corporate climate goals.

UMG has committed to achieving GHG emissions targets and outlined a pathway to reduce scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 58% by 2032 and scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods & services by 62%.

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol defines Scope 1 emissions as direct emissions from owned or controlled sources and Scope 2 as emissions associated with the generation of electricity, heating/cooling or steam purchased for the reporting organization’s own consumption. Scope 3 are indirect emissions beyond those covered in Scope 2.

The Science Based Targets initiative has confirmed that the science-based greenhouse-gas-emissions reductions targets submitted by UMG conform with SBTi criteria and recommendations.

Said UMG EVP/CFO/President of Operations Boyd Muir, “By aligning our operations with science-based targets, we deepen our commitment to embed sustainability principles into our business practices and innovate for a resilient future in which both global communities and music lovers thrive."

HITS has its own issues with gaseous emissions that may someday be reduced. But we doubt it.
