With two reporting days to go in the chart week, Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (Republic) is within striking distance of Midnights’ 1.58m first week. Swift has already surpassed the 1.3m of 1989’s original, 2014 release.
An opening bigger than Midnights' will give Swift her biggest first week ever. The latest in Swift’s rerecorded series gives her six of the 23 albums in the modern chart era to sell more than 1m units in a single week. Interestingly, four of those 23 have a number as their title: Adele’s 25 (Columbia), The Beatles' 1 (Capitol) and the two versions of 1989. Maybe there's something to this numerology thing.
In the runner-up spot is PLEDIS/Geffen’s Seventeen.
