Drake's eighth album, For All the Dogs (OVO/Republic), arrived on Friday morning (10/6) with as much fanfare as you'd expect from an artist of his caliber. Social media lit up with the typical superlatives that inevitably come with every Drake release.
But fans may not get another album for a while; during an episode of Drake's SiriusXM show, "Table for One," the OVO boss said he's going on hiatus to address some health issues.
“I probably won’t make music for a little bit,” Drake said per Hot97. "I’m going to be real with you. I need to focus on my health, first and foremost, and I’ll talk about that soon enough. Nothing crazy, but just like, you know, I want people to be healthy in life.
“I’ve been having the craziest problems for years with my stomach. I’m just saying what it is. So, I need to focus on my health, and I need to get [that] right, and I’m going to do that. I have a lot of other things that I would love to focus on. So, I’ma lock the door in the studio for a little bit. I don’t even know what a little bit is. Maybe a year or so, maybe a little longer.”
For now, his rabid fanbase is eating up the album and his latest video, "8AM In Charlotte." Directed by Zong Li, the visual stars Drake's 5-year-old son, Adonis, who also contributed the album's cover art. Enjoy it while you can. It might be the last bone Drake tosses us—at least for now.
