Taylor Swift continues to prove her worldwide domination isn't solely reserved for concert venues. According to AMC Theatres Distribution and AMC Entertainment, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film, set to open in nearly 8,500 theaters around 100 countries on 10/13, has sold more than $100m in presale tickets. Per Deadline, AMC noted that audience demand “has been incredible” across the United States, “from the largest cities to the smallest towns."
Last month cinema insiders anticipated a $100m opening and now, it looks like the Sam Wrench-directed movie could surpass that. AMC, Regal and Cinemark chains sold more than $37m in tickets in the first 24 hours of presales. AMC Theatres, which has the distribution rights and has partnered with Variance to book the film at competitors’ cinemas, will hold at least four screenings a day, Thursday through Sunday, at every AMC location in the U.S.
Swift just wrapped up the first U.S. leg of the Eras Tour. After four weeks off, she'll resume the tour overseas at Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 11/9 with opener Sabrina Carpenter. The extensive run will continue through 2024 and, in the process, become the highest-grossing tour of all time with more than $2.2b predicted in revenue. Meanwhile, we're lucky if we can scrape up $2 from our couch.
