DEADHEAD FAMILY MAN
Jonathan Shank, CEO/founder of Terrapin Station Entertainment (a JV with Sony Masterworks), has had an acquisitive summer.
In June Terrapin’s sports-and-stadiums division added nine MLS stadiums and teams, giving the live-entertainment production company 16 partnerships with MLS, MLB and NFL franchises with the aim of hosting more concerts and events at these venues. A month later, Terrapin acquired Black Ink Presents, which produces live-to-film events with full orchestras. Black Ink’s productions include Disney’s Encanto, Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid as well as Rocketman with Elton John, Jordan Peele’s Get Out, Batman, The Evil Dead, The Goonies and Ghostbusters.
These moves have raised the profile of this Deadhead and Tulane grad, a father of two who previously led the family-entertainment division of Red Light Management. Earlier in his career, he worked on events for Barak Obama and Nancy Pelosi.
Shank, who also manages Scarypoolparty, Victoria Justice and Madison Poppe, has made a name for himself by applying the jam-band model of “strategic touring in volume” to family road shows like Peppa-Pig Live, Disney Junior Live, Octonauts and LOL. Since 2012 he’s produced more than 1,000 shows, sold north of 1m tickets and grossed $40m+ in box-office sales. Keep an eye on this guy.
