SONZA, DENNIS DELIVER BRAZILIAN #1s FOR SONY

Sony Brazil and Sony Latin’s Miami-based 5020 Records have collaborated to, among other feats, score chart-dominating hits for Brazilian stars Luísa Sonza and DENNIS.

Sonza’s album Escândalo ĺntimo, which dropped on 8/29, broke Spotify's Brazilian record for most streams in the first 24 hours of release. Every track from the set cracked Brazil’s Top 50, with the #1 “Penhasco2” f/Demi Lovato debuting on the Spot’s global Top 50 at #41 with 2m+ streams.

Sonza received another boost on 9/3 after she performed at the inaugural São Paulo iteration of The Town festival, which became the largest such event ever mounted in the city, logging 100k+ attendees each of its five days. Lovato invited Sonza onstage for the live debut of “Penhasco2,” triggering a jolt of activity that sent the hit back to #1 in Brazil.

Sonza’s performance the following day, which was broadcast on Brazilian television, boasted another viral moment courtesy of “Chico,” the new song dedicated to her partner, Chico Moedas, whose emotional reaction was captured on camera. Naturally, the clip went viral and “Chico” soared to #2 in Brazil the next day, rising to #1 on 9/5, where it’s held court ever since. The track reached Spotify's global Top 50 at #27 on 9/6.

“We expected Luisa to have a strong showing in Brazil, but the record-setting streaming activity and global chart debut blew everyone away,” Sony Music Brazil VP of Marketing and Promotion Cristiane Simões told HITS.

Also on 9/6, Sony Music Brazil scored the three biggest gainers on Spotify global: “Penhasco2,” “Chico” and DENNIS’ “Tá OK,” a collaboration with MC Kevin o Chris, KAROL G & Maluma. Sony’s 5020 facilitated the Brazilian funk maestro's pairing with the reggaeton stars.

The success of Sonza and DENNIS has Sony Latin zeroing in on the region’s repertoire and stars. Sonza, who has 31m followers on Instagram, spent considerable time recording her latest album in Los Angeles with hitmakers Tommy Brown (Ariana Grande, The Weeknd) and Roy Lenzo (Lil Nas X), with plans to cross over in a major way. And DENNIS has already recorded other high-profile collabs in various genres.
