Taylor Swift fans who've been unable to attend her Eras Tour (or who want to re-experience the phenomenon) are in luck; an Eras Tour film, directed by the Grammy-nominated and Emmy-winning Sam Wrench, will be screening at AMC, Regal and Cinemark theaters beginning 10/13.
AMC, for one, vowed to show it at least four times a day Thursday-Sunday during its initial engagement. The film's presale performance indicates that the chain's competitors may have to follow suit; Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour broke AMC's single-day presale record yesterday (8/31), with tickets purchased amounting to $26m, handily beating the $16.9 generated in advance by Spider Man: No Way Home. Regal, Cinemark et al. have not yet reported presales, but AMC is exploring adding even more shows to keep up with demand.
Swift teased the film on social media, writing, "The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far, and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon. Tickets are on sale now at amctheatres.com. Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged. 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk).”
The Eras Tour is expected to gross more than $1.4b worldwide, with Swift pulling in around $13m per night. The superstar extended the itinerary in early August, adding 15 dates for 2024. The expansive global trek, which began in March, will wrap (for 2023) on 11/26 in Brazil. It will resume on 2/7 in Tokyo before heading back to the U.S. on 10/18.
