THE SONGS THAT SIZZLED ON SPOTIFY THIS SUMMER

Latin music, angst-ridden anthems, Barbie tunes and a couple of country acts dominated the summer at Spotify, which has revealed that Eslabon Armado & Peso Pluma’s “Ella Baila Sola” is its most-streamed song of the season.

U.S. listeners made Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” the most-streamed song of the summer, one of five country entries in the Top 20. Wallen has three on the list, while Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny and Pluma have two inclusions apiece.

Spotify Head of Editorial, Nashville Rachel Whitney said of “Last Night,” “It kicks off with a storyline that keeps you guessing and lands in the catchiest hook. It pulls in audiences from across the popular-music spectrum, with elements of R&B, pop, and country all in one. Between the beat, the hook and the stripped-down guitar intro and Wallen’s signature southern drawl, it’s a song that can get people dancing or gathered around a campfire.”

Globally, though, it was Latin artists—Bunny, Myke Towers and Grupo Frontera among them—who made the strongest showing in a crowd that includes such global stars as Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa and Harry Styles.

“Watching the rise of ‘Ella Baila Sola’ to become the global song of the summer has been truly exhilarating,” said Antonio Vazquez, head of U.S. Latin Editorial. “It’s a testament to how música Mexicana is not only capturing hearts but dominating the international music scene and becoming one of the top growth-driving genres globally. This feels like an important milestone.”

Spotify’s Songs of Summer list is based on the DSP's charts between 5/29 and 8/14.
