DeYOUNG SAILS AWAY ON PRIMARY WAVE

Primary Wave Music has acquired the music-publishing catalog rights for a majority of the compositions written by Styx’s Dennis DeYoung and the rights for a majority of the recordings featuring his performances.

DeYoung penned seven of Styx’s eight Top 10 singles, among them “Babe,” “Lady,” “The Best of Times,” “Come Sail Away” and “Mr. Roboto.”

“We couldn’t be happier to welcome Dennis into the Primary Wave family,” said PWM CEO & founder Larry Mestel. “His songs were a soundtrack to so many lives and we look forward to creating new opportunities for those songs in the future. Dennis is truly a legendary artist.”

While DeYoung was in Styx, the band sold more than 30m albums. Beginning in the 1980s, he started releasing solo albums and working in musical theater, writing a musical version of Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

DeYoung's tenure with Styx ended in 1999 after 27 years. He then formed his own band and toured under the banner of Dennis DeYoung and the Music of Styx.

“I’m truly honored to be a Primary Wave artist,” DeYoung said. “Dōmo arigatō.”
