UMG CELEBRATES HIP-HOP'S GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY

UMG has unveiled a program celebrating hip-hop’s 50th anniversary tomorrow (8/11), beginning with a special lighting of the Empire State Building tonight (8/10). The ceremony, which will feature appearances by Def Jam artists Ja Rule, Ashanti and Jadakiss, will be followed by a countdown to midnight in Brooklyn.

UMG has also launched HH50.com, where fans can find exclusive releases and limited-edition merchandise from hip-hop artists of various eras—from Public Enemy and Lil Wayne to Rae Sremmurd and Ice Spice. Also on offer: specially curated content and playlists from UMG artists and labels and a map of other HH50 events.

“Universal Music Group is incredibly excited to continue to support artists in celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop,” said UMG Chief Marketing Officer, Global Consumer Marketing Alexandra Hinkle (pictured). "The genre is a cornerstone of art and culture, built by the power and voices of Black artists. Its influence can be felt around the globe.”
