BMAC WELCOMES CORDAE & GEE

The Black Music Action Coalition has added rapper Cordae and Live Nation Urban President Shawn Gee to its Executive Leadership Council. Cordae and Gee, who both received the Social Impact Award at BMAC’s inaugural annual gala, will thus formally support the org's mission to fight racism in the music business and the culture at large.

"Right now, the system of the music business is flawed and disproportionately slanted against Black artists, especially when signing record deals," Cordae noted. "BMAC is taking the necessary steps to change these inadequacies. I believe the work BMAC is doing now will pay great dividends for the artists of today and the future."

Gee added, "Systemic racism in the music industry did not begin three or four years ago; it’s been a part of the fabric of the industry for generations. Likewise, the problems will not be eliminated in a few years either. It’s the work of organizations like BMAC that’s laying the foundation for generational progress and change."

BMAC co-founders WillieProphetStiggers and Shawn Holiday have plans for Cordae; on 9/19 he'll participate in the Save the Music x Black Music Action Coalition Summit at 1500 or Nothin Academy, kicking off BMAC Week in L.A. ahead of the 9/21 BMAC Gala.

The one-day summit, subtitled “Remixing the Industry: Creating Pathways for Students of Color,” focuses on improving awareness of and access to music-related careers for underrepresented students. As part of the program, Cordae and his team will host a fireside chat with participants, offering a realistic look at what it takes to establish a career in entertainment.

Information about the 2023 BMAC Gala can be found here. We fully expect our invitation to be "lost" in the mail.
