The Los Angeles Press Club named HITS Nashville Editor Holly Gleason Entertainment Journalist of the Year and gave her the top prize in the Criticism of Music category at its annual awards ceremony Sunday (6/25).
Gleason also took top honors in the Entertainment News (Magazine) category for her work in Pollstar.
“It was shocking on so many levels,” Gleason said. “Los Angeles is the epicenter of the entertainment industry. I came of age as a writer and critic out here, writing for Rolling Stone, L.A. Times, Musician, BAM, CREEM and so many more, so I know how high the bar is set—and how much it takes to even be in the conversation.”
Gleason was singled out in the Journalist of the Year category for “her experience in writing about the music industry, particularly country music" and for "combining that vast knowledge with incisive interview questions and revealing profiles of musicians.” In the Critic category, it was noted that “her writing is almost as lyrical as the music she reviews" and that she is "insightful and shows deep knowledge of her subjects.”
