HIP-HOP AT 50: YANKEE STADIUM BLOWOUT GETS EVEN BIGGER (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Several acts have been added to the "Hip-Hop 50 Live" event scheduled to take place 8/11 at Yankee Stadium; in addition to headliners Run-DMC, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne and Ice Cube, the Bronx blowout will feature performances by Wiz Khalifa, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, Kid Capri and Cam'ron of Dipset fame.

The two surviving members of Run-DMC, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Joseph "Run" Simmons, will reconvene for a star-studded event commemorating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. Co-produced by Live Nation, Mass Appeal and the New York Yankees, "Hip-Hop 50 Live" will take place at the Bronx's Yankee Stadium on 8/11—50 years to the day DJ Kool Herc and his sister, Cindy Campbell, hosted the South Bronx back-to-school jam that would come to be regarded as the Big Bang of hip-hop. Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne will share headlining duties with Run-DMC.

"We were asked if we wanted to celebrate the birthday of hip-hop in the Bronx, where it was born, so of course we said yes," McDaniels tells us. "There’s no hip-hop culture, no Run-DMC or anyone else on this show without the boys and girls from the Bronx who created this, so that’s why we're showing up. Hip-hop has given us and the world so much."

Also scheduled to hit the stage: T.I., Fat Joe, Common, A$AP Ferg, EPMD, Ghostface Killah, Lupe Fiasco and Slick Rick.

A special "Queens of Hip-Hop" set will feature Eve, Trina, Lil Kim and Remy Ma, while the "Pillars of Hip-Hop" will boast performances by Herc and Campbell, Grandmaster Caz, Kurtis Blow, Melle Mel, Roxanne Shanté, The Furious Five's Scorpio and the Sugarhill Gang.

Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday (6/9) at 10am ET. For more information, head here while we bust out our Adidas tracksuits and Kangol bucket hats.
