Dolly Parton has tapped some of the biggest names in music for her first-ever rock album, Rockstar, out 11/17 via Butterfly Records with distribution by Big Machine Label Group.
Over nine original tracks and 21 familiar rock anthems, the girthy project boasts appearances by Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr, Elton John, Sting, Ann Wilson, Steven Tyler, Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Debbie Harry, Simon Le Bon and Chris Stapleton, among many, many others. Covers include Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” Queen’s “We Are the Champions” and Prince’s “Purple Rain.”
“I am very honored and privileged to have worked with some of the greatest singers and musicians of all time, and to be able to sing all the iconic songs throughout the album was a joy beyond measure,” Parton said. “I hope everybody enjoys the album as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together.”
Rockstar will be available as a four-LP set, a two-CD set, a digital download and on all streaming services. Lead single “World on Fire” arrives Thursday (5/11). Pre-order the album here. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have to go practice our air guitar.
