Kool & The Gang are back in the saddle with People Just Wanna Have Fun, out 7/14 on Astana Music Inc. with distribution by BFD/The Orchard.
Led by founding members Robert “Kool” Bell (bass) and George “Funky” Brown (keyboards, drums), who produced the new album, the R&B/funk/soul stalwarts have dropped first single "Let's Party" in honor of the group's 60th anniversary. They recently performed it on Good Morning America and will take it on the road beginning 5/5 at the Westgate Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Kool & The Gang is arguably the most-sampled R&B band of all time, with Madonna, JAY-Z, the Beastie Boys, Janet Jackson, Cypress Hill and Diddy among the many acts who've sampled their music. As a result, Questlove lent them the unique distinction of being "America's First Hip-Hop Band."
Kool & The Gang's 1980 hit "Celebration" currently resides in the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress. Together with "Ladies Night," "Get Down on It" and "Hollywood Swinging," the Grammy-winning ensemble has sold more than 70m albums worldwide. Watch the video for "Let's Party" below.
