Primary Wave Music has acquired a stake in Russ Ballard’s publishing catalog, including America’s “You Can Do Magic,” Three Dog Night’s “Liar” and “God Gave Rock ‘n’ Roll to You,” recorded by KISS and Argent, for which Ballard served as frontman.
PWM will receive the publisher and writer’s share of royalties in the multimillion-dollar deal, as well as the writer’s share of public performance.
“We are excited to launch a true partnership and look forward to working with Russ,” said Primary Wave Music’s Robin Godfrey Cass. “As if these timeless hits, most of which he's the sole writer of, weren’t enough inspiration, Russ’ charm and engagement make everyone around him want to work even harder.”
Ballard’s songs also include “Since You Been Gone” by Rainbow and “So You Win Again” by Hot Chocolate. As a singer and instrumentalist, he played in several bands before becoming the lead singer of Argent in the early 1970s. He then went on to a solo career.
“I'm delighted to have found the right partner in Primary Wave,” Ballard said. “I'm looking forward to working with them on many of my future projects. I love their energy and commitment.”
