SUSPECTS FOUND GUILTY IN XXXTENTACION'S MURDER

The suspects in the 2018 killing of controversial rapper XXXTENTACION—Michael Boatwright, Treyvon Newsome and Dedrick Williams—were found guilty of first-degree murder Monday (3/20). Per Rolling Stone, the verdict was handed down after seven days of deliberation. The trial began in February; closing arguments wrapped up earlier this month. All three men are facing life in prison.

XXXTENTACION was fatally shot outside RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach, Florida on 6/18/18. Lead prosecutor Pascale Achille argued the rapper was killed during a botched robbery. She conceded the suspects never planned on shooting the rapper. But a struggle ensued over the $50k XXXTENTACION was carrying and Boatwright shot him "without provocation."

A fourth suspect, Robert Allen, testified against his co-defendants; he identified Boatwright as the triggerman and Williams as the mastermind.

The trial made waves after Williams' attorney, Mauricio Padilla, tried to link Drake to the murder. Padilla had asserted that the two had bickered on social media. But after weeks of back-and-forth, a judge shot down his motion to depose the OVO Sound/Republic superstar.

XXXTENTACION was just 20 at the time of his death. His estate has released four posthumous projects, including 2022's Look at Me: The Album (Bad Vibes Forever/Columbia), which peaked at #17.
