Warner Records has launched its first electronic/dance label, Major Recordings.
The label is headed by Sam Mobarek, who will report to Warner Records Co-Chairman/CEO Aaron Bay-Schuck and Co-Chairman/COO Tom Corson. Its first signing, in partnership with Parlophone’s FFRR, is rising dance duo PARISI.
“Over the past few years, we’ve strategically built a strong presence in the dance-music community and have had quite a bit of success,” said Corson and Bay-Schuck in a joint statement. “Now, with Major Recordings, we’re doubling down, putting renewed energy and dedicated focus on supporting even more electronic-music acts from around the world.”
Added Mobarek, who, in recent months, has been working with, among others, Blessed Madonna, Eliza Rose, Luude, Skin on Skin, HUGEL and BLOND:ISH, “At Major Recordings we’re building a roster and team that reflects electronic culture and its roots in collaboration, inclusivity and fun. Many thanks to Tom and Aaron for giving me the opportunity to uplift and support our community.”
“Sam brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to ensure that Major becomes the home for artists with an aspiration for worldwide success, and Aaron and Tom’s commitment to the genre will enhance our reach within the electronic landscape even further globally,” said WMG Director of Global Strategy for Electronic Music Anton Partridge.
Mobarek has spent two decades in branding and marketing, most recently running Mob Creative, which she founded. Prior to Mob, she led the marketing department at Ultra Music, ran the pop imprint Lefthook for Sony Music (while still a student at NYU’s Stern School of Business) and held positions at SFX (now Lifestyle) and Beatport.
