SPOTIFY SHARES SOME STATS

More than 10,000 artists generated over $100k on Spotify last year, a first for the streamer. The artist at #50,000 generated $12.5k.

CEO Daniel Ek unveiled multiple stats at the company’s "Stream On" session today (3/8), noting that Spotify has paid out more than $3b to publishing rightsholders over the last two years.

By its count, about 200,000 recording artists generated 95% of total royalties in 2022. More than 3,000 catalog-heavy artists generated $100k+ each.

The platform noted that 1,060 artists pulled in more than $1m in royalties in 2022, just over 10,000 topped $100k and 17,800 cracked the $50k mark. These numbers are 130%-140% better than 2017's.

Nearly 1 million songs (914k) had earned more than 1m streams by the end of 2022, while 133,000 songs had 10m streams and 13,000 had 100m. The biggie, 1b streams, has been topped 360 times.

On the lower end, Spotify noted that a quarter of the artists who generate less than $10k self-distribute their music.
