GRAMMY ELIGIBILITY PERIOD GETS A TRIM. WTF'S UP? (UPDATE)

The Recording Academy has unveiled the eligibility period for the 66th annual (2024) Grammy Awards, 10/1/22-8/31/23, one month shorter than that of the previous year; for the 65th edition, it was through September of 2022. News of the change has sparked considerable buzz in the biz, as wonderers wonder what the mysterious forces inside the Secret Chamber were up to this time.

A source close to Grammy who didn't really want to talk to us said the change provides the Recording Academy with more flexibility in the nominations-announcement timeline and booking of the CBS telecast and Premiere Ceremony. Online Entry Process dates and other details are expected soon.

How will these changes affect release schedules and other strategy for the 2024 trophyfest? What other rule changes are in store? Will an obscure electronic-polka act be favored for Best New Artist? Stay tuned.
