What was supposed to be a triumphant event marking the long-anticipated arrival of De La Soul's early catalog to DSPs has become a memorial to fallen member Dave "Trugoy The Dove" Jolicoeur, who died unexpectedly on 2/12.
On Thursday (3/2), Amazon Music will continue its yearlong salute to hip-hop's 50th anniversary with "The D.A.I.S.Y. Experience" at New York City's Webster Hall, one day before De La Soul's first six albums are finally made available to stream. It will honor Trugoy's life and legacy as well as the indelible impact he and fellow De La members Posdnuos and Maseo have had on the culture.
The venue will be transformed with artwork from the Strong Island act's seminal 1989 debut, 3 Feet High and Rising, and The Originals (Stretch Armstrong, Clark Kent, Rich Medina and Tony Touch) will curate a DJ set.
Fans can RSVP to "The D.A.I.S.Y. Experience," which is free to attend, here and watch The Originals' set on Maseo’s Twitch channel starting at 8pm ET. Amazon Music's Twitch channel, meanwhile, will livestream a series of interviews with some of De La Soul's friends and peers beginning at 10:30pm ET.
