A vintage shot of the legendary Chaka Khan graces the cover of our Black History Month 2023 special issue; the artist is also the subject of an in-depth interview. The volume likewise features thoughtful pieces on Janet Jackson, the women of Southern hip-hop, Minnie Riperton, Leontyne Price and other extraordinary women creators.

Chaka is now celebrating her 50th anniversary in the biz. Her career spans virtually every popular genre, and her skill and insight as an interpreter of song are unrivaled. We are exceptionally fortunate to have a candid, illuminating interview with this great star, conducted by Dyana Williams (herself celebrating her golden anniversary in the biz).
