JOY IN THE SALES CHARTS

The Best New Artist is currently the biggest new artist on the sales charts; in the early hours of Monday morning, Samara Joy’s Linger Awhile (Verve) is #1 at iTunes and Amazon’s digital-music and CD-sales charts.

Moreover, Joy's self-titled 2021 Whirlwind release is #8 in digital sales at Amazon and #9 at iTunes following her Grammy wins for Best New Artist and Jazz Vocal Album.

Bonnie Raitt, Harry Styles and Beyoncé are right behind her in the Grammy push. Raitt, whose three wins included Song of the Year, is #2 at iTunes and in CD sales at Amazon with Just Like That… (Redwing). Styles’ Album of the Year winner, Harry’s House (Columbia), is #3 on both lists. The vinyl edition is Top 10 at Amazon.

Beyoncé’s RENAISSANCE (Parkwood/Columbia) is #4 at iTunes, #3 at Amazon digital and #8 on the Amazon CD chart. Country Album of the Year winner A Beautiful Time (Legacy) by Willie Nelson is Top 10 on all three lists.

Other winners enjoying boosts into the Top 20 at iTunes are Lizzo’s Special, Brandi Carlile’s In These Silent Days and Adele’s 30.

Will the Grammys' impact be more than a blip on the sales charts? Could some of these breakouts continue and even extend to streaming? Might the contours of the 2023 marketplace be altered by the night's biggest winners? We shall see. Stay tuned.
