Taylor Swift’s Midnights (Republic) has become the first vinyl release of the 21st century to sell more than 1 million copies.
We've been telling you that Taylor's marketing machine is the mightiest in the land, and this latest benchmark reinforces that assertion. The vinyl format is certainly in the midst of a renaissance, but this is a particularly stunning achievement in the streaming age. And Midnights hit the million mark just three months after its release.
Other top-selling vinyl albums of the new millennium include Kendrick Lamar’s acclaimed 2012 set, good kid, m.A.A.d city (TDE/Aftermath/Interscope), at 807k and Harry Styles’ 2019 release, Fine Line (Columbia), at 685k.
How many of Tay's fans even own turntables? And how many of them know you can use a gatefold cover to clean weed? We have so many questions.
