UPDATE: Spotify confirms that Miley Cyrus' "Flowers" has become the most-streamed song in a single week in the platform's history.
Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” (Columbia) is big. Really big. Exceptionally big. And it’s growing. Allow us to elaborate.
The percolating pop cut now sits at #1 on Spotify’s global and U.S. Top 50 charts, Apple Music, iTunes (close to 40k in sales) and Amazon Music. It's amassed 15.8m worldwide streams on the Spot (20m overall U.S. week to date). It's grown every day, including Sunday and the MLK holiday (Sundays and holidays are typically down days for streaming).
"Flowers" is now in the Top 5 of non-holiday stream peaks on Spotify’s global chart and has the biggest fourth-day streams of all time, leading such heavyweight tracks as Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license,” Adele’s “Easy on Me” and Harry Styles’ “As It Was.” (Yes, we noticed that Columbia has three of the Top 5.)
The cut is en fuego at Pop radio as well, having rocketed to #19 after debuting at #23.
Based on the data we’re perusing, this appears to be just the tip of the iceberg.
What’s more, we find that Miley’s 2009 smasheroo “Party in the USA” has ridden the new song’s coattails into the Spot’s worldwide Top 100—up more than 50 places—while her more recent “Prisoner” f/Dua Lipa and “Angels” have also begun to ascend. How much more of Miley’s catalog will move northward on the streaming charts in the gravitational pull of “Flowers?” How big a Miley moment will this turn out to be? We’ll keep our eyes on the numbers and our fingers on the abacus.
In the meantime, Ron Perry, Team Crush and Tish Cyrus are assembling a dazzling bouquet of lilies and hydrangeas.
