Our sources are confirming published accounts that Dr. Dre is selling music-income streams and other assets to the tune of roughly $200m. Shamrock Holdings and UMG are acquiring the assets, said to generate nearly $10m annually.
The bundle of rights being sold, these stories note, includes artist royalties from two of the hip-hop giant's solo albums as well as his share of N.W.A artist royalties, his producer royalties and the writer’s share of his song catalog (of which he does not own publishing). UMG's portion of the deal reportedly includes Dre's epochal triple-platinum solo debut, 1992's The Chronic (Death Row/Interscope).
The good doctor is being represented in the deal by longtime attorney Peter Paterno of King, Holmes, Paterno & Soriano.
