Grails, a six-part docuseries on the creation of lifestyle brand Eastside Golf, which has challenged the sport to diversify—its logo depicts a Black golfer—is now streaming on Hulu.
The series follows the two young Black entrepreneurs, Earl Cooper and Olajuwon Ajanaku, who realize a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to partner with Nike's Jordan Brand and design an innovative line of golf sneakers and apparel to be worn on and off the course. Eastside Golf's mission was to disrupt the industry by inspiring a community to break down barriers, aspire to excellence and create a future in which we all belong.
Grails features interviews with sports and music figures like Chris Paul, DJ Khaled, CC Sabathia and PGA Tour golfers Luke Donald and Joseph Bramlett.
The series is presented by ABC News Studios and directed by ESPN journalist Hannah Storm in association with her production company Brainstormin' Productions. Music mavens Steve Bartels and Shawn "Pecas" Costner serve as executive producers. The development of the series was a bold footwear move for Bartels, who pretty much lives in his fuzzy slippers.
