Warner Music Group’s Broadway-cast-album guru Kurt Deutsch has a new role: SVP of Warner Music Entertainment & Theatrical Ventures, in which capacity he’ll oversee the development of new theatrical productions and investments. He will continue to work with Warner Chappell Music and various WMG labels.
Deutsch will now report to Warner Music Entertainment President Charles Cohen, who said, “Warner Music Group has long been an avid supporter of musical theater, and I’m very happy to be expanding WME’s scope by bringing Kurt into our division. He is highly respected throughout the theatrical community, and his deep experience, brilliant creative instincts and invaluable relationships will be pivotal as we continue to expand our IP development, investment and production.”
Deutsch founded the Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight theatrical-music label in 2000 and joined WMG five years ago, continuing to run the label in addition to being SVP, Theatrical & Catalog Development for Warner Chappell Music. The label will remain part of WMG’s Arts Music portfolio.
Deutsch will still work with songwriters he's signed or re-signed to Warner Chappell, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Alan Menken, Stephen Schwartz and Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty.
He's currently working on the stage productions The Wrong Man and The Notebook and developing an animated film, Winter Wonderland.
