Nothing says “dawn of 2023” quite like a bunch of dudes in ship captain’s uniforms performing mellow hits of the ’70s. So prepare yourself for the advent of Yachtley Crew, the self-proclaimed “Titans of Soft Rock,” who have inked a deal with Jimmy Buffett’s Mailboat Records ahead of a fleet of tour stops that will briefly transform your local casino or nightclub into a cruise ship.
The nautically attired troupe are repped by (we’re quoting here) “legendary rock manager” Andy Gould, which means at least two things: world-class showmanship and excellent wine at the captain’s table. Yachtley’s tuneful sea salts, whose repertoire includes favorites by the likes of Hall & Oates, Toto and Christopher Cross (not to mention new original tune “Sex on the Beach,” produced and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge), are booked by Jim Lenz at TKO.
The band has been packing in the “crewpies” (again, we’re quoting) with its impeccable live shows and is currently previewing its smooth-sailing set at intimate venues like L.A.’s legendary Whisky a Go Go (12/3), with future ports of call including Vegas and Tucson, Ariz. Find more info by tacking this way.
“After seeing Yachtley Crew live at a sold-out show in Los Angeles, witnessing the band's top-notch talent and incredibly fun show, we thought it would be a perfect fit for Mailboat,” reads a quote from label prez Harold Sulman. “We look forward to setting sail together for a great adventure!”
“The growth of Yachtley Crew has been amazing,” added Gould, who is sometimes known as “Big Yachty” (though not by us), “and with the addition of Mailboat Records on our side, the future of Yachtley Crew is full speed ahead on an endless horizon!”
