Sam Smith's smash single "Unholy" f/Kim Petras, released by Capitol a mere two months ago, has already attained platinum status. It's the sole pop single to achieve the distinction this year and the third across genres.
The news comes as the song rises to #1 on the Mediabase Top 40 Airplay chart and less than a week after it was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category.
Taken from Smith's fourth studio album, Gloria, "Unholy" debuted at #1, spent four weeks atop the U.K. Official Singles Chart, sat for 29 consecutive days at #1 on the Spotify global chart and topped the Apple and Shazam worldwide tallies. Combined global streams are quickly approaching 1b.
As for the "Unholy" video, it's racked up more than 56m views on YouTube. The visual may be "unholy," but the timing of its arrival is clearly divine. Watch it below while we drag our own bodies to the body shop for some much-needed maintenance.
