UPDATE: Taylor Swift has issued a statement via her Instagram Stories addressing the chaos her fans encountered trying to scoop tix on Ticketmaster for The Eras Tour.
"It goes without saying that I’m extremely protective of my fans," she began. "We’ve been doing this for decades together and over the years, I’ve brought so many elements of my career in house. I’ve done this SPECIFICALLY to improve the quality of my fans’ experience by doing it myself with my team, who care as much about my fans as I do. It’s really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse."
Swift continued: "There are a multitude of reasons why people had such a hard time trying to get tickets, and I’m trying to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward. I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them multiple times if they could handle this kind of demand and were assured they could. It’s truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them."
Taylor Swift's 2023 stadium outing, The Eras Tour, has generated incredible demand, with its presale setting a new record of 2m tickets sold in a single day, as Ticketmaster improvises to fight bots.
The 52-date trek's presale was originally set for Monday, 11/14; sales were halted midday and resumed Tuesday as fans swarmed Ticketmaster to claim their places in digital queues. Swifties then purchased 2m tickets, but Ticketmaster's platform was overwhelmed by 3.5b system requests, four times more than the site's previous record.
As not all of the requests were from actual Swifties, the company is doing its best to combat bots and prevent scalpers from purchasing Eras Tour tickets.
Ticketmaster ultimately announced, on 11/17, that the public on-sale scheduled for Friday (11/18) had been canceled due to "insufficient ticket inventory" and other repercussions of extraordinary demand on its ticketing systems.
Swift has yet to make a statement regarding her fans' incredible devotion to seeing her perform live for the first time in five years, though 17 additional dates were added last week. Stay tuned to see how the situation plays out.
Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow's public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been cancelled.
