Primary Wave Music has struck a partnership with Huey Lewis and The News, acquiring their catalog through 1994. Included in the deal are hits “Heart of Rock & Roll,” “Hip To Be Square” and their first #1, “The Power of Love," from 1985's Back to the Future soundtrack.
“In the 1980s, everyone heard Huey Lewis and the News’ many smashes on the radio and saw their fun videos on MTV,” said Primary Wave Music’s David Weitzman. “Their incredibly well crafted songs still make me smile.”
Discussions about a move to Broadway for The Heart of Rock & Roll, a musical that premiered in 2018 at San Diego's Old Globe, are ongoing. A documentary on the band is also in the works.
“The Power of Love” will actually make it to Broadway before the News show: A Back to the Future musical is opening on the Great White Way in June.
