The rap community is grieving after Migos member Takeoff was shot and killed during a private party at 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston early Tuesday morning (11/1). According to KCRP-2 Houston, fellow Migos members Offset and Quavo were both on the scene at the time of the shooting.
Social media erupted with tributes to the slain rapper as people struggled to make sense of yet another violent death of an artist. DJ Jazzy Jeff was among the first to comment on Twitter, asking, "What is going on… Come on…WTF!!!" Questlove echoed those sentiments with a simple, "What the fuck??!!"
The D.O.C., Dr. Dre's longtime collaborator, issued a swift call to action, posting, "Gotta stop killing ourselves. Gotta stop this shit. We wasting all that money and power on nothing. Need a new woke that says we not doing it. Gotta start investing time and energy into these young gunners. Those boys is the keys to a lot of shit."
Ja Rule added, "RIP Takeoff... This sht has to STOP… Sending love to friends and family."
Takeoff's death comes less than two months after PnB Rock's murder at a Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles in Los Angeles and nearly one year after Young Dolph was fatally shot in his hometown of Memphis while picking up cookies for his mother.
Gucci Mane, Killer Mike, Live Nation, Def Jam, City Girls' Yung Miami, Russ, Spotify's Carl Chery, Chika, Speech of Arrested Development and DJ Premier are also among the sea of notable names expressing their condolences, shock and grief.

No hot takes. No profound thoughts. Just sad that another rapper, son, brother, and friend has been killed. God be with all those who feel the loss. #TakeOff #MIGOS
