Taylor Swift achieves the biggest debut of her career with Midnights (Republic), her 10th studio album; the record-breaking LP opens with a jaw-dropping 1.53m on the HITS Top 50, making it the biggest bow of the year and the biggest since Adele’s 25 in 2015.
Midnights’ milestones include selling the most vinyl units ever in a single week (around 500k) and becoming the most-streamed album in a week by a female artist—surpassing Ariana Grande’s thank u, next—with an estimated 540m+ audio and video streams.
Midnights is also the first album to surpass 1m in activity in a single week since ticket/merch bundles were disallowed in late 2020.
In other new-release news, Quality Control/Motown’s Lil Baby moves to #2 as It’s Only Me posts 114k in its second week.
Jeezy & DJ Drama's Snofall (Def Jam) arrives at #8, Meghan Trainor's Takin' It Back (Epic) at #19 and Carly Rae Jepsen's The Loneliest Time (Schoolboy/Interscope) at #20.
See the full chart here. The week's new arrivals are led by Broken Bow's buzzing Lainey Wilson, the Foo Fighters' best-of set (Legacy) and Republic's Yung Gravy.
