Taylor Swift achieves the fifth million-selling first week of her career with the debut of Midnights (Republic). She not only sets the record for the most first-week streams by a female artist—which is about 500m, besting Ariana Grande’s 307m for Thank U, Next—but becomes the first artist to surpass 1m since ticket/merch bundles were disallowed for chart inclusion. The last album to open north of 1m was Swift’s Reputation (Republic), in November 2017 with 1.24m.
NBA YoungBoy's Ma' I Got a Family (NBA/Atlantic) opens in the Top 10, as does Arctic Monkeys' The Car (Domino) and Jeezy & DJ Drama's SNOFALL (Def Jam), while Carly Rae Jepsen's The Loneliest Time (School Boy/Interscope) debuts in the Top 20.
Now, if you'll excuse us, we've got to practice our Swift-inspired dance moves ahead of this weekend's festivities.
