We have only overnight numbers to pore over, but having hauled out the ol’ abacus, we believe Taylor Swift’s brand-new Republic release, Midnights, may well be on the way to breaking at least two key first-week records: Adele’s post-bundling-era bow of 839k for 30 and Harry Styles’ 182k in vinyl sales for Harry’s House (that set’s first-week total activity was 521k, giving Styles the biggest debut of 2022 so far).
We’re still counting on our fingers and toes, but we’re pretty sure Tay can blow past these benchmarks on her way to a stunning first-week total. We’re not quite ready to predict what that number will be, but for now, just set up your Midnights souvenir clock. We’ll keep you posted.
In the meantime, clock this: Spotify confirms that Midnights has just become the most-streamed album in a single day in the platform's history. Soon thereafter, it was announced that the album had hit the same benchmark at Amazon and Apple Music.
