FLIPOVER FRIDAY: NEW ARRIVALS AT iTUNES & APPLE MUSIC

We live in two worlds. There’s “dominating the charts” on Flipover Friday when a major release hits iTunes and Apple Music, and then there’s “dominating the charts (Taylor’s version),” where it’s like nothing anyone has ever seen before.

Five editions of Taylor Swift’s Midnights (Republic) occupy five of the top six slots at iTunes; Midnights songs are 14 of the Top 15; the standard album is #1 at Apple Music, with the 20-track Midnights (3am Edition) at #8, five hours after its release; and 11 of its songs are in the Apple Music Top 30—but, hey, it’s early.

On the sales side, iterations crowding the leader board include the original, 13-track version, the clean original version, the 3am Edition, the clean 3am Edition and the 14-track version.

The Top 5 songs at iTunes are, in order, “The Great War,” “Bigger Than the Whole Sky,” “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve,” “Paris” and “High Infidelity.” On the streaming side, “Lavender Haze” is the early front-runner at #4, followed by “Maroon” at #10, “Anti-Hero” at #13, “You’re on Your Own, Kid” at #15 and “Midnight Rain” at #17.

Beyond Midnights, the albums in the iTunes Top 19 are new arrivals, with Meghan Trainor’s fourth full-length, Takin’ It Back (Epic), leading the way at #5.

Arctic Monkeys’ seventh album, The Car (Domino), parks at #7; MercyMe’s Always Only Jesus (Fair Trade Services) bows at #8; Carly Rae Jepsen’s sixth set, The Loneliest Time (School Boy/Interscope), settles in at #9; and Architectsthe classic symptoms of a broken spirit (Epitaph) crashes in at #10.

Among the other new arrivals in the Top 20 are Andrea Bocelli’s A Family Christmas, Tegan and Sara’s Crybaby and a-ha’s True North.

Aside from Tay, the highest-charting new arrival at Apple Music is Jeezy & DJ Drama’s Snofall (YJ/Def Jam), at #12.
