Sony act Cat Burns is emerging as one of the U.K.’s most exciting breakthrough artists of 2022, thanks in part to her hit single, “Go” (RCA/Since 93), which will be followed by a U.S. rollout via RCA next year.
“Go” is the fourth-biggest-selling single of the year so far in the U.K. It’s the only track from a new British act (who has yet to release a debut album) outside the dance genre in the Official Charts YTD Top 20. "Go" is one of two in the Top 40; Mimi Webb, a fellow RCA artist, sits at #31 with “House on Fire.” The Burns track has racked up more than 987k in sales to date, peaked at #2 in June and has spent 17 weeks in the Official Charts Top 10.
RCA U.K. President David Dollimore calls Burns "a shining example of what the global music industry needs," opining: "She is one of the few artists defining a generation and leading the way in writing raw, heartfelt songs that resonate profoundly with her fans. Her natural ability to tell stories and put honesty, courage and raw emotion into her music means these songs are not only becoming hits but reaching out to fans and rapidly growing an audience on a global scale. I truly believe Cat has the artistic depth to be huge.”
“Go” has grown with the help of remixes, including a drum-and-bass version with goddard. and a duet with Sam Smith. Burns followed that up with the double A-side "People Pleaser"/"Sleep at Night." She’ll be on the road with Ed Sheeran in the U.S. in 2023 after supporting his European stadium tour. Burns has also been out with Mae Muller and Years & Years. A sold-out headlining show at London’s 1,500-capacity Koko is in the diary for October.
Glyn Aikins, co-president of Since 93, tells us to expect further material in the coming months, with an album—featuring “great songs and clever lyrics, as is Cat’s style”—set to land in September. Her team is also hoping for nods on the BRITs Rising Star and BBC Sound of 2023 nominee lists.
“I’m not sure there's another emerging artist in the U.K. quite as exciting as Cat,” Aikins said. Since 93 Co-President Riki Bleau added, “When Glyn first played Cat’s music, her potential was clear. Watching her start to realize that has been a highlight of 2022.”
