EQUALIZE-HER: LIVE AT THE TROUBADOUR

Aimee Mann, Tinashe and Paris Jackson are among the performers set to appear at L.A.'s storied Troubadour on 10/9 in support of EqualizeHER, a new organization launched by Linda Perry and philanthropy partner Alisha Ballard. EqualizerHer’s mission is to not only address gender inequity in the music business but also to provide support and resources for women and girls interested in music-industry careers.

"I've been in this business for a very long time, and I've seen many people adapt to the industry standard of how females are represented and treated," goes a quote from Perry, "and for me that's unacceptable behavior. We can't let people get away with things just because we don't want to stir the pot. To turn our back on what is still a very current issue is just as bad as the problem itself. We need to show our young females how to rise above and fight for what they believe in.”

EqualizeHER points out that women represent only 21% of artists, 12.6% of songwriters and 2.6% of producers, while fewer than 1% of popular songs are written solely by women. Perry wants to focus on several "actionable goals," including women-produced live music-events. Find tickets for the Troubadour confab here, while we install this rad phase-shifter plugin.
