The RIAA held its RIAA Honors: Pioneers in Hip Hop event Wednesday at its Washington, D.C., headquarters, lionizing Grandmaster Flash, MC Lyte, UMG General Counsel/EVP of Business & Legal Affairs Jeff Harleston and House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries.
RIAA Chairman and CEO Mitch Glazier welcomed the honorees and other attendees by thanking them for coming to the association's "state-of-the-art" new building, where gold and platinum records by "the greatest of the great" line the walls.
A range of special guests including Rapsody, DJ Face, former Rap City host Big Tigger, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Mix Master Mike as well as Dr. Dre on video applauded the luminaires for their contributions. RIAA COO Michele Ballantyne and Chief Policy Officer Morna Willens, meanwhile, led presentations throughout the evening.
Stupid Fly will release video from the event in October and November via Instagram as part of its Un-Rapped series. We'd like to assure everyone that at no point was anyone from HITS seen break dancing or rapping. You're welcome.
