PIRES BEGINS A NEW CHAPTER

John Pires, EVP of global business development for Sony Music Publishing, is exiting the company. Pires spent the last 15 years at Sony and the 12 before that with Viacom’s Famous Music, which was later acquired by Sony/ATV.

Over the course of his career, Pires oversaw the company’s investments in writer signings and acquisitions, including those of EMI Music Publishing, Extreme Music, Paul Simon, Babyface, Lady Gaga, Willie Nelson, Akon, Shakira, Norman Whitfield, Olivia Rodrigo and Lil Nas X.

Pires' talent and experience will undoubtedly be in high demand in the wake of his departure. Demand remains low, meanwhile, for our lack of talent.
