EMMY NOMS:
ON THE MUSICAL SIDE

Jack Sussman and Team CBS are savoring a trove of Emmy nominations, with the Grammys telecast, Adele's special, Lady Gaga/Tony Bennett, the Kennedy Center Honors and Tony Awards Presents: Broadway’s Back! all scoring multiple noms.

The acclaimed Grammys show earned five noms, including Variety Special (Live). Adele's One Night Only is up for five trophies, including Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). The Bennett/Gaga special is a contender for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Outstanding Music Direction and two technical trophies. Both the 43rd and 44th annual Kennedy Center Honors are in contention for Outstanding Music Direction. And the Tonys Broadway special earned two noms including Variety Special (Live).

Meanwhile, the music supervisor behind the episode of Stranger Things that gave new life to Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” is up for an award alongside episodes of Better Call Saul, Euphoria, Ozark, The White Lotus and three-time winner The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Nora Felder is nominated for Outstanding Music Supervision for the Stranger Things episode “Dear Billy,” which first featured Bush, as well as Musical Youth’s “Pass the Dutchie” and the Ella Fitzgerald/Louis Armstrong duet of “Dream a Little Dream of Me.”

Robin Urdang, who already has three Emmys on her mantel for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, is in contention for the episode “How Do You Get to Carnegie Hall?,” which included songs by Blossom Dearie, Eddy Arnold and Sparks. Adam Leber gets a nom for the season opener of HBO’s Euphoria. It begins with Billy Swan’s version of “Don’t Be Cruel” and closes—30+ songs later—with Labrinth's rendition of “Auld Lang Syne."

Gabe Hilfer’s nod is for the innovative all-Nas episode of Ozark; Janet Lopez is nominated for the Hawaiian-music-packed finale of HBO’s The White Lotus; and Thomas Golubić is recognized for Better Call Saul’s “Black and Blue,” which boasts songs by Toto, Pink Martini and Wilson Phillips.

Euphoria star Zendaya and Labrinth are each nominated twice for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics; her “Elliot's Song,” written with Muzhda Zemar-McKenzie, and “I'm Tired,” penned with Sam Levinson, are vying for the trophy with numbers from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (“Maybe Monica” by Thomas Mizer and Curtis Moore), Schmigadoon! (“Corn Puddin'” by Cinco Paul) and This Is Us (“The Forever Now” by Siddhartha Khosla and Taylor Goldsmith).

The Polygram Entertainment feature Zoey's Extraordinary, based on the NBC series Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, received two noms, including Outstanding Television Movie.

Succession received the most nominations, 25, followed by Ted Lasso and The White Lotus with 20 each, Hacks and Only Murders in the Building (17) and Euphoria (16).
