Soul breakout Steve Lacy has signed with RCA ahead of the 7/15 arrival of his sophomore album, Gemini Rights. The track "Bad Habit," meanwhile, has surged at Spotify, among other DSPs, hitting new peaks for the Compton native. Having dropped on 7/1, it's soared into the Top 10 at Spot U.S. and just landed a coveted add on Today's Top Hits—both firsts for Lacy's solo career.
Lacy first gained recognition alongside Syd in R&B group The Internet. He's collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Vampire Weekend, Solange, Mac Miller and more as a guitarist, producer and songwriter. He independently released his debut album, Apollo XXI, in 2019. It earned a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Lacy has become a Gen-Z favorite, achieving TikTok fame with his track "Dark Red." The viral cut has spent nearly a year in the Top 200 on Spotify U.S. (it's #51 today), amassing half a billion streams on the platform. Lacy released the song in 2017 on his indie EP Steve Lacy's Demo, recorded entirely on his iPhone.
Stay tuned for Lacy's major-label launch. Listen to "Bad Habit" below.
