With Stranger Things Season 4 Vol. 2 just around the corner, Spotify has added new content to its Netflix Hub, including an "Upside Down" playlist and plenty of easter eggs, ahead of the premiere.
In addition to the "Stranger Things Official Playlist," playlist, which is the most-followed playlist on the hub with 970k+ followers, Caleb McLaughlin, aka Lucas, has taken over Spotify’s "Throwback Thursday" playlist and packed it with some of his favorite '80s jams.
When Vol. 1 premiered on 5/30, Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” (EMI/Parlophone/Warner) catapulted to new heights, increasing its Spotify streams by 8700% globally and 9900% in the U.S., while global streams of her catalog increased by more than 1600%. "Hill" also became the first catalog track to earn a spot on Today’s Top Hits, the biggest playlist globally at 31m followers. It’s the only song featured that was created before 2021.
"Great music is timeless and Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)’ is now a bigger hit today than it was when it was released in 1985,” said Spotify Global Head of Editorial Sulinna Ong in the streamery's "For the Record" blog. “And while Today’s Top Hits normally reflects the latest releases, we felt strongly that we needed to make a first-of-its-kind exception as we are witnessing a truly unique cultural phenomenon."
Other tracks in Season 4 also saw notable jumps in global streaming, including Musical Youth’s “Pass the Dutchie,” which increased by more than 1000%.
