The pandemic may not be over, but the live sector is in a feverish state of activity. A number of big festivals and special events have been announced recently, while major tours chug on. Click the links for further details.
Lollapalooza, going down in Chicago 7/28-31, will feature BTS’ j-hope, Metallica, Dua Lipa, J.Cole and Green Day, with TOMORROW X TOGETHER recently added to the 7/30 bill.
Live Nation’s Made in America festival has announced Bad Bunny and Tyler, The Creator as headliners. The Philly confab, taking place over Labor Day Weekend, will also feature Lil Uzi Vert, Jazmine Sullivan, Burna Boy, Kodak Black, Pusha T, Lil Tjay and Tate McRae, among others.
Also slated for Labor Day Weekend: Goldenvoice's 2022 Day N Vegas. Travis Scott will mount his first U.S. festival set since ASTROWORLD, headlining with SZA and J. Cole. Also on the bill are 21 Savage, H.E.R., Jhené Aiko, Summer Walker, Joji, Baby Keem, Playboi Carti, Vince Staples and many more.
Pharrell Williams' Something in the Water fest kicks off over Juneteenth Weekend, and a new single featuring headliner Tyler, The Creator and 21 Savage is slated to drop just in time to stoke excitement.
The Backstreet Boys, who will celebrate their 30th anniversary next year, have kicked off a suitably giant North American and global trek. The DNA World Tour boasts 60 U.S. dates, 25 European shows and 25+ appearances in Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Foo Fighters are touting star-studded concerts in tribute to their late drummer, Taylor Hawkins, one on each side of the pond; the first will be held 9/3 at Wembley Stadium in London and the second on 9/17 at Kia Forum in L.A.
The enormously successful, Crush Music-backed Hella Mega Tour featuring amp-cranking Yanks Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy is tearing it up in the U.K. and thereabouts; it sold out the 70k+ cap London Stadium (6/24), among other venues on the current leg (they'll also be rocking venues in Dublin and Glasgow before moving on to the Continent).
We've already blathered on at considerable length about Harry Styles' incredibly hot Love on Tour trek, which includes an amazing 15 nights apiece in NYC and L.A. Oh, it seems we just blathered on about it again.
What's next on the blistering summer menu? Could singing our favorite hits at the tops of our lungs while wedged up against an arena stage finally get us to herd immunity? Consult your doctor and stay tuned.
