The Prince estate and Legacy Recordings have released a video of a 1985 live rendition of “Little Red Corvette” in the lead-up to a bevy of Prince-related activities in June, the month of His Purple Highness' birth.
Recorded at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y., “Little Red Corvette” is part of Legacy’s three-LP, two-CD/Blu-ray Prince and the Revolution: Live, due 6/3. The video will be part of special programming premiering on PBS stations 6/4 and will be available for digital purchase and rental on Apple TV on 6/7. It will air on Arte in France and Germany, on Dutch public channel NPO3 and via additional broadcasters around the world.
SiriusXM, meanwhile, is bringing back The Prince Channel for all of June. Its return will debut with the 1985 live performance in its entirety and feature Prince classics, B-sides, signature slow jams and other hits.
In Prince’s hometown of Minneapolis, an official mural will be unveiled downtown on 6/2, the same day Celebration resumes at Paisley Park.
Prince: The Immersive Experience will make its worldwide debut in Chicago on 6/9.
Before any of that, though, today (5/26) marks the arrival of the first episode of the two-part podcast The Story of Prince and the Revolution: Live on the Official Prince Podcast feed. The five members of The Revolution—Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, BrownMark, Dr. Fink and Bobby Z—and friends will travel back to the premiere of Purple Rain at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood and the moment Prince became a household name.
