Years of mining gold from UMG’s vaults have paid off for Sujata Murthy, who has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Media & Artist Relations at Universal Music Enterprises.
Murthy will continue to be responsible for the UMG catalog division’s media department and oversee press strategy and campaigns, as well as work closely with the artists, managers and estates on UMG’s roster. She will be an integral part of expanding UMe’s corporate and executive initiatives. Murthy will remain at UMe’s Santa Monica offices and report to UMe President & CEO Bruce Resnikoff.
“Sujata is an invaluable member of my executive team and someone who has earned the respect of our artists and their management teams,” Resnikoff said. “She has also built one of the best media teams in the industry, and she continues to play an important role in developing and executing UMe’s successful release strategies for our artists.”
Murthy has created and guided strategic campaigns for countless UMe artists, among them ABBA, The Beach Boys, Nat King Cole, Marvin Gaye, KISS, Peggy Lee, Bob Marley, Smokey Robinson, Frank Sinatra and Cat Stevens.
Murthy, who began her music career at Capitol Records, has received numerous accolades, including her inclusion as one of Korn Ferry’s Most Influential South Asian Women Executives in Media and Entertainment and Business Insider’s 20 Most Powerful Indians in Hollywood. She has also received the Visionary Award from The Women's International Music Network.
